Renowned Japanese director Yoshikazu Fukumura will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra for five consecutive Sundays, starting on September 9th, in the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater in Havana City.
In this new contact with the Cuban public, Fukumura comes with four Japanese masters of the guitar, who will perform orchestral works of Spanish Joaquín Rodrigo in the evening of Sunday 23, at five o'clock, reported Granma newspaper.
For two of them (Shin Fukuda and Yasugi Ohagi Ishi), this visit to Cuba will have the taste of reunion, since in the past they were involved in the International Contest and Festival of Havana, created and supported for more than two decades by the Cuban maestro Leo Brouwer.
Kiyoshi Shomura will also come to Havana, possibly the best known Japanese guitarist for its educational programs on NHK television, and Daisuke Suzuki, considered the best performer of the work of the great Toru Takemitsu.
The four performers previously will have offered a recital on Friday 21, at 6:00 pm at the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, based on pieces of Boccherini, Vivaldi, Carulli, Dyens and Say, the paper adds.
Two other solo work with Fukumura in this symphonic programming, thanks to the auspices of the Japanese embassy in Havana and the Cuban Institute of Music: the Hungarian violinist Vilmos Olah and Chinese cellist Wang Ray, both with glittering careers.
Olah will perform in the opening day of the arduous and beautiful Violin Concerto, by Beethoven, while Wang will play on Sunday September 30 and October 7 Elegia, by Fauré, and Concerto No. One, by Saint Saen.
