The Arte CONTINUA Project, which started at the end of 2015, is headquartered at the old Águila de Oro Cinema that is located on Rayo entre Zanja y Dragones, in the heart of Chinatown in Havana.
Its first exhibition entitled '' Anclados en el Territorio '' was held last November, with the participation of Cuban artists such as Alejandro Campins, Elizabet Cerviño, Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo, Carlos Garaicoa, Reynier Leyva Novo and José Yaque, who took possession of a space where history and the identity of an ancient and picturesque city are generously reflected.
The works of four Italian artists, Loris Cecchini, Ornaghi & Prestinari, and Giovanni Ozzola were added in January this year. This fact brought about a change in the title ''TÚ + YO = NOSOTROS''.
This inclusive proposal was supported by a third in late April, with the arrival of works by French artists who are members of another project: Galleria Continua.
The new exhibition entitled ''Ensemble'', which was inaugurated on April 28, will then allow the incorporation of authors from China that is an indisputable part of Cuban culture, and crowd the current premises of the building used for these purposes.
The exhibition ''Ensemble'' will celebrate the Month of French Culture in Cuba until May 31, with artists Etel Adnan, Daniel Buren, Pascal Marthine Tayou and Kader Attia.
Works such as Daniel Buren's Périmètre - Blanc (1969-2015) installation, which was presented during the XII Biennial of Havana, as white bands that roamed the perimeter of Águila de Oro are now integrated into the Arte CONTINUA Havana Project as well as works ''TÚ + YO = NOSOTROS'' and ''Anclados en el Territorio''.
Also they go outside the cinema and extend from Chinatown up to Calle San Lázaro in the work entitled ''Promenade à La Havane'', which is a visual gift for all Cubans and visitors to the capital.
The tours, which will let you enjoy and include the participation of artists and critics in Old Havana, will begin on May 7, 14 and 21 at 10 am at the corner of Prado and San Lázaro.
Similarly, you can appreciate the artistic work presented by Pascale Tayou Marthine consisting of, on the one hand, a muralist appropriation of lattice outside the headquarters building of the French Embassy in Cuba, under the title ''Kamouflage''.
The variety and mixture of shades used in its design symbolizes the plurality of the world through figures drawn in thin black lines, which are expressed in a surreal style. Inside the gallery, the artist hangs a "flying carpet" that is made from colorful plastic bags.
The metaphorical art of Kader Attia also reflects on city streets reconciliation efforts through curious darning.
Parallel to the exhibitions, poems will be recited in different languages of the Franco-Lebanese creator Etel Adnan, which are conceived from Cuban motifs.
Other artistic activities took place in the area of Arte CONTINUA, which is headquartered at the Águila de Oro Cinema in Havana's Chinatown. The headquarters of the Embassy of the Tercer Paraíso, which is a project by Michelangelo Pistoletto and Cittadellarte in collaboration with the Galleria Continua in Cuba since 2014, was inaugurated on April 30 at 3 pm. Laura Salas Redondo and Erick González León were in charge of the presentation.
On May 2, within the program of "CHARLAS CONTINUAS", a conversation was held between Pascale Marthine Tayou and art critic Hamlet Fernández, the subject being the work of the French artist and his presence in Cuba.
This Wednesday, the project includes the theoretical exchange between Jorge Fernández Torres, who is director of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and Nicolas Bourriaud, who is an art historian and creator of the concept of "relational aesthetics". The meeting will be moderated by Lorenzo Fiaschi, who is co-founder and co-director of Galleria Continua.
From the Águila de Oro Cinema, which is located in the heart of Old Havana, Arte CONTINUA invites both Cuban and foreign audiences to enjoy its events, which are centered on the Month of the French Culture in Cuba. (By Alina Iglesias Regueira)
