Sunken city under Bermuda Triangle found A group of Canadian scientists affirmed they discovered the ruins of a sunken city under the Bermuda Triangle, which might be the mythical city of Atlantis, which disappeared some 10,000 years ago.

The researchers led by experts Paul Weinzweig and Pauline Zalitzki, found the remains of the city some 700 meters deep by means of a robot, off the north-eastern coasts of Cuba.

Recorded images show monumental constructions, such as four huge pyramids, one of them made of glass, a sphinx and several monoliths with engravings on.

‘‘It was amazing to observe through high-definition sonar images, the long white sand plains where architectural designs, made by man, are clearly seen. It’s like flying over an urban project and seeing highways, tunnels and buildings’’, said Zalitzki to Russia Today channel.

According to the scientist, the city dates from the preclassic period of Caribbean and Central American history, populated by ‘‘an advanced civilization, similar to the early Teotihuacan culture’’.

First described in the writings of Greek philosopher Plato, the mythical city of Atlantis, would have disappeared in a flood, an earthquake or a volcanic eruption more than 10,000 years ago, according to the legend.

Throughout decades, such a myth has inspired authors of several literary, music and film works, mainly science fiction stories. (PL)
