An attractive program will be screened in Havana's movie theaters in the first month of 2021 and among these offerings, the premiere of the Cuban feature film Agosto, by director Armando Capó, stands out as the main attraction.
Its national premiere will be announced at the Acapulco cinema. The film will be released on January 9th at the Acapulco, Yara and Multicine Infanta movie theaters, as well as in the rest of the country's movie theaters. The film is a French-Cuban co-production that centers its plot in 1994, in the middle of the Special Period, and already has among its laurels the award for Best First Film at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana in 2019.
In addition, during this first month of the year, the premiere and national premiere of the Cuban feature film El Mayor, directed by Rigoberto López, will also take place, on a date that will be announced in due course.
Another interesting activity of the seventh art will be the Exhibition dedicated to the famous Cuban actor and director Jorge Perugorría, which includes the special presentation of the film Strawberry and Chocolate, at the La Rampa cinema, as well as a total of ten feature films in which Perugorría plays a leading role or as the director of the work.
A special tribute is dedicated by ICAIC to Cuban filmmaker Enrique Colina, who recently passed away, with a retrospective of his work to be screened from January 13-17 at the Multicine Infanta Movie Theater. The opening session will be especially significant, as it will show several of his documentaries in the presence of family, friends and special guests.
For its part, the Cinemateca de Cuba proposes a Panorama of the Cinema, through which a representation of the cinema of the 1930s will be offered and the institution also offers classic and contemporary films in the segment Enjoying the Cinema in High Definition (HD).
The Cinemateca announces that this January, in addition, it will resume the space Ojeada al cine cubano with the exhibition of Los días del agua by Manuel Octavio Gómez, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the film's premiere, which will be accompanied by the short documentary Ella trabaja.
Another event that returns to the programming of this notable Cuban institution is Los críticos opinan, which this month offers the national premiere of the film El pájaro pintado.
