Excellent proposals of this 23rd Edition of the international Book fair of Havana come from the other side of the island, which are much more surprising when bringing along the warm breeze of Bayamo’s lands; those Cuban eastern landscapes with a rich history of courage and tradition.
Two of the titles, proposed by the Bayamo Editions ‘‘Pulmón’’ Collection, and through which the reader will keep a close relation with this book fair, are ‘‘Erase una vez la duda’’, by Alexander Aguilar López, and ‘‘El anillo de la condesa y otros cuentos’’, by Luis Carlos Suárez Reyes.
The first one presents us a journey throughout a world of fantasies and scattered characters by means of prose and verses, in which dreams prevail; and the second one brings several stories together, which are told by children and young people, who, from their innocence, give a different point of view of life, where real and fantastic things coexist.
Also, through Bayamo Editions, but from the Crisol Collection, ‘‘De la opinión al verso’’ stands out, an homage anthology to José Joaquín Palma and Juan Clemente Zenea, with the selection and compilation of Licenciate of Sociocultural Studies, poet, storyteller, writer, editor and radio scriptwriter Yulexis Ciudad Sierra.
This compilation is designed in two parts: reflexive proses on significant figures and poets’ lyric texts, historians and other experts of the area in homage to Palma and Zenea. The work has a singular quality, so it keeps close relation with local and identity features.
Other titles are ‘‘El canto de la Calandria’’, an anthology of the work of Bayamo poet Ursula Céspedes de Escanaverino, which became the most complete compilation of her romances, sonnets and verse stanzas up to now. In addition, some of the texts, which were assumed from published articles, were also included.
The introduction, selection and notes of this book come from writer Lucía Esther Muñoz Maceo, who has been awarded several times both nationally and internationally with awards such as Trebol de la suerte, 2006; Una mujer puede andar and Amargo ejercicio, 2008. (By Lizandra Amat Consuegra)
