I have lived with great satisfaction during the last few days, since I have seen women feeling happy just for being treated nicely by men everywhere in the city, but especially on busses and at public places.
It’s true that sometimes women react roughly to our politeness. But, this time I could appreciate gratitude and elegance on their part, because in some occasions I have been astonished at the reproach of good manners.
Manners such as standing up and giving up the seat to a lady or an elder person, opening up and holding the door in a polite way both for young or old women, carrying their bags, helping them out to get off the bus, accompanying them to get up the stairs, and others, form part of the good manners that allow us to be well regarded in society.
To continue gaining respect, no matter our age, or our cultural level, we must give our best so as to take great care over our image and behaviour. So, in most of the cases, it is reprehensible in our society; for instance, it is not appropriate to wear t-shirts or other similar clothes either on busses or at other public places, or even using a bad language when having a conversation with another person.
We should always be polite, no matter how many times we are reproached. Let’s prove that we are gentile, well-educated and affectionate persons, and that we do love and respect women.
If we do so, they will stop regarding us as chauvinist men. They will accept our compliments and politeness, and thus, we will live pleasantly in a new and better society. (By Alberto Loreydis Pérez Zamora)
