Preview of a project to pay a musical tribute to Alicia Alonso

The president of the Latin Music Institute (ILM), Daniel Martin, offered a social media preview of a project to honor Cuba's prima ballerina asssoluta, Alicia Alonso.

The artist is working with the Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (Egrem), the most important record label in the largest archipelago of the Antilles, on a record dedicated to the ballerina invested by the ILM with the title of Star of the Century for having left a lasting mark on time.

In this way, it is intended to pay tribute to the ballerina in the year of the centenary of her birth, which took place in Havana on December 21, 1920.

As detailed by Martín, this is a compilation album of many of the great songs that were made to Alonso.

Not all of them fit into one record, but a selection was made and five new songs were added. From there, I would like to highlight the work of two great maestros: Chucho Valdés and Frank Fernández, who contributed their talent in this sense, he said.

According to Martín, Fernández contributed a lot to one of his songs, Maravillosa Mujer, which was chosen to make a video clip by audiovisual producer Luis Ernesto González.

Precisely, the president of the ILM shared on social media this Monday some promotional posters of that work that allow to appreciate Alonso transformed into a cartoon and after praising the project he asks: What do you think about seeing her again in cartoons?

Her family is happy with this process and it will be launched before its centenary date, said the artist.

Also participating in the album is renowned Ecuadorian violinist Jorge Saade, who received the Batuta Award in 2019, a Grammy counterpart but awarded in recognition of world personalities in classical and concert music.
