The Camagüey-based painter Eduardo Rivera won the Grand Prize at the ninth René Rodríguez Regional Landscape Hall, in Ciego de Ávila province, a contest that every year welcomes exponents of this modality from the Cuban provinces of Sancti Spíritus and Camagüey.

Integrated by prestigious artists of the visual arts in the country, the jury distinguished the work for making exceptional use of the landscape moment, for its boldness and originality, the virtuous use of the visual texture of the color, for the synthesis of the same and the form to achieve infinity of colors within the range of green.

The first, second and third places were occupied by Nelson López González, from Morón, with Tras tus pasos; Carlos Alberto Casanova, from Camagüey, with De un lado a otro caminaban, and Lorenzo Ruiz Rodríguez, from Sancti Spíritus, with Río Banao.

In addition, six mentions and collateral prizes were awarded by ARTEX, the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets, the Cuban Association of Crafts and Artists, the Provincial Heritage Center, and the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists of the Avileña region.

Lorenzo Linares Duque, a renowned painter and teacher at the school of visual arts in Camagüey, and president of the jury, highlighted the event as one of the most important in the country.

Every year the Provincial Council of Visual Arts in Ciego de Avila summons the René Rodríguez Regional Hall, an event that also intends to pay tribute to the dedication and authenticity of this exceptional painter from Ciego de Ávila, one of the top managers in Cuba of landscape painting and, especially, of the spatula technique.
