Among the figures responsible for the support of technology for the optimal development of a concert, there is a specialist that if once concluded, everything was heard as it should be, the applause is directed to the musician in question due to the high rank of his artistic proposal.
But if there were sound problems, evidently all the indexes accuse the sound engineer. Therefore, it is never too late to endorse those who have made a name for themselves for the magnificent performance of their work over the years, while at the same time I would like to call attention to those who do not assume their responsibility for the sound of a show with adequate professional rigor. First of all, in this work, improvisation is not allowed, because like high-risk sports, there are levels in which the error of this human being is only allowed once. That is why it is so important to talk about audiometry tests to check his auditory conditions, and even to master knowledge about music theory that will allow him to face any problem with a favorable balance.
Of course, these are not the same conditions faced by a sound technician in the process of recording an album in the studio, who has the duty to master the set of variables of a live show. But in the same way that, among the categories of the different record awards, the relevant work of a sound technician stands out, those who in live concerts know perfectly well that increasing the power of the audio does not imply higher quality, but rather creates the conditions for an unpleasant distortion far from any acceptable parameter, should also be recognized.
Sometimes, the responsibility lies with the musician himself who, in the case of being a rock performer, claims that the genre is played loud and therefore demands more volume. In fact, referring to the typical intensity of that music does not imply that it is achieved by turning up the volume to a deafening level, since the forte passages of Beethoven or Wagner are frankly
passionate and not at all distorted. In addition, this technician has to handle an adequate sound distribution of the area to be sounded, among many other requirements to be taken into account.
It is worth this brief review of the role of the live sound engineer to remember that we are facing a profession that involves something much more complex than making the speakers in front of us sound, but making them sound good.
