With rather complex approaches between the conceptual formulation of his busy artistic productions and the excellence of his drawings, Santiago Rodríguez Olazábal has been characterized within the panorama of contemporary Cuban art for the exaltation of certain edges of syncretic religion, but from a deep, anthropological, critical and sociological angle, he distances himself quite a bit from clichés of folklorism.
The flawlessness of his works on any level has earned him a special place within that spectrum; Olazábal’s latest works are on display at the Collage Habana Gallery of “Fondo Cubano de Bienes Culturales” under the title of ¨Facets¨.
The artistic work of Santiago Rodríguez Olazábal has been identified as, the origins of Afro-Cuban issues associated with its religion and most diverse manifestations, from the analysis of this spiritual world’s essence.
The firmness of the strokes on each piece, combined with a precise and powerful amalgamation of colors, allows us to recognize his work while conveying a complex system of sensory experiences that live inside the artist.
The entire exhibition is filled with 56 pieces of mixed media and each area measures 14.5 square cm, which further allows the formation of a basic and coherent layout.
Olazábal presents us with a detailed review of the different stages of human vicissitudes, context free of detailed references, conceptual approaches of striking beauty in strokes of various chromes with black tones, complemented by the material vision of thread and fibers that gives a different touch of class to a very special composition.
