The technical and performance quality of Cuban students was recognized at the Second Latin American Piano Competition America For All, with several awards in different categories.
The event, organized by the Society of Pianists and Teachers of Latin America and the Caribbean, awarded Emely Elizabeth Rufín Lezcano in the Small Latin American Pianist B level, who also won the Special Prize for the performance of a Latin American work.
This novice performer is trained by Professor María de los Ángeles Horta, from the Escuela Elemental de Música Eva Alfonso Pérez Isaac, in the province of Matanzas.
Also, in the Small Latin American Pianist B category, the student Ronny Yunior López Vega was awarded the second prize, as well as the Special Prize for the Latin American work. He was trained for this event by the maestros Hortensia Upmann and Aimee Herrera, from the Manuel Saumell Conservatory in Havana.
On the other hand, in the "Young Latin American Pianist" category, which includes 15-17 year-olds, the second prize and Special Prize for the Latin American Work went to the young performer Laura Victoria Arean, from the National Art School, under the guidance of professor Miryam Cruz.
Meanwhile, in the category of Young Latin American Virtuoso, the first prize went to Cristhian Pérez González, from the Escuela Nacional de Arte, under the guidance of Professor Liana Fernández, and the second prize went to Malva Rodríguez González, from the same institution and a student of Professor Aldo López Gavilán.
These significant results in the Second Latin American Piano Competition America For All, which also took place in the first edition of the competition, are evidence of the great pool of talented young performers in the largest archipelago of the Antilles, and also confirm the hard work and ability of the teachers and professors of the piano classes at all levels of the artistic education system in Cuba.
The Second Latin American Piano Competition America for All took place between 1 and 19 November 2021. Its main objectives are to promote the talent of young pianists from Latin America and the Caribbean and to disseminate the work of their composers.
The jury was chaired by prestigious teachers and renowned performers in the field, such as Venezuelan Clara Rodríguez, and comprised Mexicans Jorge Viladoms and Antonio Manzo, Chilean Paulina Zamora, Argentinian Dora de Marinis, and Cuban Leonardo Gell.
Enjoy the performance by Ronny Yunior.
