Published: 2013.01.04 - 23:30:17 / web.renciclopedia@icrt.cu

First official interpretation of danzon in Cuba was recalledThe Miguel Failde Danzon Circle in Matanzas city, recalled in a special dance moment, the premiere of “Las Alturas de Simpson”, the first theme of the gender officially performed in a cultural institution of Cuba.

At the lyceum of the city on January 1, 1879, it was received with joy the new piece composed by the musician who honors our center with his name, said Orlando Gomez, president of the Danzon Palace in Matanzas.

Just like 134 years ago, last Tuesday night, the musical work invited the couples to the ballroom where they danced using the typical steps of this rhythm as well as other traditional ones like bolero, son and mambo. The themes were sung by the Sonora Lira Matancera, a group of almost nine decades old.

Mariano Marquez Diaz, a 91-year-old man, said that the rhythm derived from the Cuban danza is a medicine to the body and food to the soul. It is an expression that keeps on winning followers among the new generations while it also offers fun, elegance and respect.

With more than 200 members, the Danzon Circle in Matanzas city promotes the peak of the practice and formation of values, respecting the essential principles like a correct wardrobe, a requirement that keeps as a constant stamp the use of the fan.

The musician Miguel Failde (1858-1921) not only marked with “Las Alturas de Simpsons” the beginning of a rhythm that lasted for almost four decades in the popular preference, but he also left the gender that would become the national dance of Cuba.
