Cuban intellectual Miguel Barnet who also chairs the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC) was conferred the Doctor Honoris Causa title in Italian Culture Research by the Italian University La Sapienza, in Rome.
At the Main Lecture Hall of that center of higher studies, the poet, narrator, essayist, ethnologist and president of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists, gave a lecture on the thinking of celebrated Cuban anthropologist and essayist Fernando Ortiz, of whom he considers to have been a pupil.
The embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Italy, the Municipality III of Roma Capitale, the Italian-Latin American Institute and the Timbalaye International Forum have participated in the organization of this meeting that acknowledges the literary work of the author of “Cimarron” and “Cancion de Rachel,” among other volumes.
