Opened in Havana an exhibition with photos from the National GeographicThe exhibition Las 50 mejores fotos (The best 50 photos), from the National Geographic mainly taken during the present century, was opened at the Photograph Library of Cuba, located in Plaza Vieja, in Havana, the Cuban capital city.

The exhibition group is the result of a selection made by the public of the prestigious and old magazine, carry out in 2005.

The exhibition was opened with the presence of Fabio Esteban Amador, National Geographic´s representative in charge of the exploration, restoration and preservation in the aforementioned magazine, and of Daniel Torres, also representative of the same magazine, for Cuba, who will be in charge of the organization of the posterior exhibition of the photographic group in other provinces of the country.

There were also present Nelson Ramírez de Arrellano Conde, photographer and director of the Fototeca de Cuba and Rufino del Valle, specialist and curator of that institution were present at the opening day. Rufino was in charge of the museum design of the exhibition.

Fabio Esteban Amador highlighted the new cultural relation that National Geographic has established with Cuba, with the Ministry of Culture and also with the Fototeca, and he referred to the magazine´s foundation, which took place in 1888, like a publication that disclosed explorations, photos and the worldwide geography among other topics.

He explained then that the presence in Cuba of the aforementioned magazine goes back to 1906 when it was published a contour map of the Island; then on February, 1928, when Charles Lindbergh landed in Havana in his famous Spirit of St. Louis airplane, also appeared in the pages of the National Geographic and in this same year, 2012, it was published a photo taken by Daniel Torres Soto as an emerging explorer.
"For us it is something natural to return to Cuba and increase a relation where we celebrate their explorers, their scientists and the fact that this sample is intended to reach every part of Cuba and that everybody can observe how these photos basically display the fragility of the earth as well as its beauty, in images that got human spirit and also the natural spirit", said Esteban Amador.

The wisdom of the readers of this publication has made possible to collect a very beautiful and appreciable sample from the multiplicity of places that are reproduce in scenes of impressive nature such as Congo, India, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Tanzania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Australia, Indonesia, and Israel among others and also for the subject of most of the images that is the defense of the environment and the exaltation of the ecological and humanist feeling.

The National Geographic magazine has a monthly frequency and it reviews matters related with topics of the life of the planet and of man; it is famous since its foundation by the quality of the photos, as well as for the originality of the images taken by the most credited photographers of the whole world.

The sample Las 50 mejores fotografias of the National Geographic magazine will be opened to the public in the Fototeca de Cuba until January13, a moment when it will be moved to the Plastic Arts Faculty of the Higher Arts Institute to exhibit in that high teaching center and later on it will continue its way through several provinces of the country.
