The 49th edition of the International Cervantino Festival of Mexico begins today with Cuban rhythms. The Island will be a guest of honor in an event celebrated both on-line and on-site.

Drums and salsa from the Van Van band, conducted by Samuel Formell with the incomparable rhythm created by his father, is one of the main attractions of the most important and long-lasting festival sponsored by Mexico, which will go on until the 31st of this month in one of the most emblematic places of the State of Guanajuato.

Sharing the stage with the broad Cuban delegation, there will be musicians and artists from the state of Coahuila, also this year's guest of honor. They will share moments with professionals from more than 20 countries from Europe, Asia and America.

The inauguration features a performance by Coahuila Desert Philharmonic Orchestra, and of course the Cuban legendary band, in the public Hall of 'Alhóndiga de Granaditas', at 8:00 p.m. Guanajuato state time.

Along with the band will perform multi-award-winning pianist José María Vitier, the El Cobre Steel Band, the Camerata Romeu, the Santiaguero Septet, and troubadours like Eduardo Sosa and Ray Fernández, among others.

Other international artists complete the program such as Peruvian singer, Tania Libertad, who will perform a repertoire of boleros by recently deceased Mexican composer Armando Manzanero.

The famous festival's schedule registers more than 80 on-site events, while about twenty will be broadcast virtually. Dance, theater, opera, music, and many activities for children, youth, literature, cinema, academy and visual arts, can be enjoyed from today.

Within the framework of the festival, the Centennial of Tango will be celebrated and a day paying tribute to the links between Japanese and Mexican music.
