Yoldance: for better dancing

Published: 2013.03.04 - 14:53:47 / web.renciclopedia@icrt.cu

Yoldance: for better dancing To celebrate its 15th anniversary, the Cuban dance company Yoldance organizes a program of musical show premieres and launches the Dance campaign for the rescue of Cuban typical dances.

“We are going to teach youth to dance. It doesn´t mean they don´t know how to do it but we want them to do it even better. Considering the debate over the acceptance or the reject for the reguetón or the timbatón , we can orient the young people, rescue popular parties and the couple and ball dance traditions which have been left behind”, commented Yolena Alonso, founder – choreographer of the company which has great international recognition.

“Young people is the base of society and we want them to know Perez Prado´s mambo in the voices of popular orchestras as Manolito Simonet´s, Pachito Alonso´s or Los Van Van. We need to reach schools and give them even more”, she stated.

Therefore, Yolena claimed the support of the corresponding institutions to guaranty a greater presence of the company in Cuba. “It´s not to give a two weekends performances, as it had happened. We have several months’ tours in world stages. Our purpose is that Yoldance can offer permanent shows here”. She bets for her company to transcend as the leader of the rescue of musicals in Cuba.

As part of the celebration program, Yoldance will present successful shows as “Viva Cuba”- that narrates our nation´s history- and “Bésame mucho”, both with new elements to enrich the choreographies and musical arrangements by Maestro Pachito Alonso.

During July they will perform at the Auditorio Nacional in México, one of the most important theatres in Latina America and subsequently they will travel to Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
