This event will serve as a tribute to the talented filmmaker and screenwriter, as well as to celebrate the 63rd<\/sup> anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).<\/p>\n\n\n Sara G\u00f3mez is recognised as the first woman in Cuba to direct a feature-length fiction film: De cierta manera<\/strong> (1974). In the prologue, the essayist and journalist Reynaldo Gonz\u00e1lez said that the filmmaker’s documentaries did not stop at the lofty rhetoric of the social projects of the revolution, because she tried to live them cinematographically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This exceptional filmmaker’s legacy lives on through her impactful documentary work. In her films, she not only highlighted differences but also championed the causes she believed in, staying true to her own unique style and consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to the presentation of the aforementioned book, the book De cierta manera. Guion<\/strong> by Sara G\u00f3mez and Tom\u00e1s Gonz\u00e1lez will also be presented on Calle de Madera. This is the third book in the Guion collection published by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Olga Garc\u00eda Yero, a holder of a PhD in Philology and Science, is renowned as the winner of the 2018 National Prize for Film Criticism and Research. She has authored several books on literary essays, Cuban cultural thought, art criticism, and film. She received the Distinction for National Culture and was elected Honorary Member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences in 2021.
