In all four performances, the role of the mother will be played by Maestro Clotilde Pe\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a press release, this work has always been one of the great successes of the National Ballet of Cuba, since it was incorporated into its repertoire on 29 April 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The eponymous tragedy by Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca, to whom this production is also dedicated on the occasion of his 125th birthday, has a special significance, as the names of Alicia Alonso and Antonio Gades are closely linked: the great Spanish dancer created his choreography for the National Ballet of Cuba in 1978, as a gift to the Prima Ballerina Assoluta and the company, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bodas de sangre<\/strong> has choreography and lighting by Antonio Gades, libretto by Alfredo Ma\u00f1as, based on the tragedy of the same name by Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca, music by Emilio de Diego, Genaro Monreal, Felipe Campuzano and Popular Flamenca, set design by Francisco Nieva and costumes by Julio Casta\u00f1o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was first performed in Cuba on 22 May 1975 at the Alicia Alonso Grand Theatre in Havana, when the Antonio Gades Company made its debut in Cuba with the same protagonists as in its world premiere: Cristina Hoyos as La Novia and Antonio Gades as Leonardo.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"776\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/carmen-viengsay.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1518\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.8083333333333333;width:426px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/carmen-viengsay.jpg 776w, https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/carmen-viengsay-243x300.jpg 243w, https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/carmen-viengsay-768x950.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 776px) 100vw, 776px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Prima ballerina Viengsay Vald\u00e9s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>One of the most important Cuban choreographies of all time is Carmen. The capricious <strong>Carmen<\/strong>, who will once again enchant us with her charms and make our hearts ache, will be performed by prima ballerinas Grettel Morej\u00f3n (12), Anette Delgado (13), Sadaise Arencibia (14) and Viengsay Vald\u00e9s (15), accompanied by \u00c1nyelo Montero and Dani Hern\u00e1ndez, who will alternate as Don Jos\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first dancer, Dani Hern\u00e1ndez, will take on the role of the bullfighter Escamillo, a role in which Yasiel Hodel\u00edn and Jorge Guerra will make their debuts. Ernesto D\u00edaz, Luis Fern\u00e1ndez and Jorge Guerra play Z\u00fa\u00f1iga, and Chavela Riera, Estefan\u00eda Hern\u00e1ndez and Alianed Moreno play Destino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opera was first performed in Cuba on 1 August 1967 at the Alicia Alonso Grand Theatre in Havana, with Alicia Alonso in the title role, Azari Plisetsky (Don Jos\u00e9) and Roberto Rodr\u00edguez (Escamillo), Ceferino Barrios (Z\u00fa\u00f1iga), Josefina M\u00e9ndez (El Destino) and Sylvia Marichal, Sylvia Marina, Mercedes Vergara and the then student of the Ofelia Gonz\u00e1lez National Ballet School (Cuatro muchachas).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Carmen<\/strong> is a choreography and libretto by Alberto Alonso, based on the novel of the same name by Prosper M\u00e9rim\u00e9e and the libretto by Henry Meilhac and Ludovic Hal\u00e9vy for the opera by Georges Bizet; the music is by the French composer, reorchestrated by Rodion Schedrin; the set is based on the original by Boris Messerer; costumes by Salvador Fern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Translated by Luis E.
