From Wednesday 22nd<\/sup> November, the Cuban capital will enjoy the Conocer La Habanera<\/strong> Meeting, which will run until Saturday 25th<\/sup> November under the direction of its creator, Maestro Cecilio Tieles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Habanera is one of Cuba’s most emblematic and universal genres, one that has helped to create and define our cultural identity, says the renowned pianist, according to the general programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other genres have emerged from the roots of the habanera. These include the clave, the criolla, the guajira, the danz\u00f3n and the bolero. It also gave rise to the Argentine tango and early jazz,\u00bb adds the researcher, explaining the two parts of the event, one artistic and the other scientific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow at 11 am, students from the Guillermo Tom\u00e1s School in Guanabacoa will have their first meeting with Maestro Cecilio Tieles. He will introduce them to the habanera l\u00edrica and other peculiarities of this beautiful genre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inauguration will take place at 16:00 in the Gisela Hern\u00e1ndez Hall of the National Music Museum, with the Exaudi Chamber Choir conducted by Maestro Mar\u00eda Felicia P\u00e9rez, soprano Johana Sim\u00f3n, tenor Yubal Caleb Pe\u00f1a and pianist Susana Santos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scientific Session, with conferences, lectures and debates, will begin at 9.30 am on Thursday 23rd<\/sup> November in the Gisela Hern\u00e1ndez Hall and will last until 17.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This edition’s speakers include Dr Argel Calcines on El faro de la habaneridad. Una mirada hol\u00edstica al patrimonio vern\u00e1culo; Dr Cecilio Tieles Ferrer will talk about Cecilia Vald\u00e9s y la temprana contradanza. Meanwhile, the musicologist Sonia P\u00e9rez Cassola, director of the museum, will talk about the give and take, the coming and going of the Cuban son guajiro, and Dr Olavo Al\u00e9n Rodr\u00edguez will hold a conference entitled La habanera como s\u00edmbolo de identidad para todos los cubanos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Entrevoces Chamber Choir, directed by Maestro Digna Guerra, and the Vocal Leo Chamber Choir, directed by Maestro Corina Campos, will perform on Friday 24th<\/sup> at 16:00 in the Argeliers Le\u00f3n Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conocer La Habanera<\/strong> will close with a concert featuring sopranos B\u00e1rbara Llanes and Johana Sim\u00f3n, tenor Bernardo Lichil\u00edn, guitarist Luis Manuel Molina and pianists Vilma Garriga, Susana Santos and Daniela Dandicourt in the gardens of Casa de las Tejas Verdes on Saturday 25th<\/sup> at 18:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
