Aldo L\u00f3pez-Gavil\u00e1n’s works will premiere in Cuba with Maestro Michael Butterman conducting a special concert on February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be held at the Oratorio San Felipe Neri in the Historic Center and will feature the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, the Lyceum Mozartiano, and the Opus Havana Wind Quintet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concert will be highlighted by the premiere of two symphonic works composed by Aldo L\u00f3pez-Gavil\u00e1n: The Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, dedicated to his grandfather Juan Jorge Junco, and a piece for trumpet and the same orchestral format. The soloists for the performance will be Alejandro \u00abCoqui\u00bb Calzadilla on the clarinet and trumpeter Mayquel Gonz\u00e1lez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maestro Michael Butterman, who serves as the musical director for four American orchestras, including the Boulder Philharmonic, Shreveport Symphony, Williamsburg Symphony, and Lancaster Symphony, will be the guest director for the concert. This is his second time returning to Cuba to conduct the chamber ensemble led by Maestra Daiana Garc\u00eda. Maestro Butterman’s contributions to music education are well-recognized as he won the diploma at the Prokofiev International Conducting Competition and was a finalist in the prestigious Besan\u00e7on International Conducting Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This event is of great importance to Cuban culture and will be captured in a mini-documentary directed by Rolando Almirante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
