{"id":2627,"date":"2024-04-05T10:33:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-05T14:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/?p=2627"},"modified":"2024-04-04T14:57:36","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T18:57:36","slug":"the-national-ballet-of-cuba-to-perform-in-spain-and-portugal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/the-national-ballet-of-cuba-to-perform-in-spain-and-portugal-05042024\/","title":{"rendered":"The National Ballet of Cuba to Perform in Spain and Portugal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With two performances at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, at 8:00 p.m. (local time), the National Ballet of Cuba will take part in the 2024 Dance Festival organized by the Municipal Culture Foundation of Oviedo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first performance, under the direction of Prima Ballerina Viengsay Vald\u00e9s, the company will present the full version of \u00abDon Quixote,\u00bb a ballet in a prologue and three acts choreographed by Marta Garc\u00eda and Mar\u00eda Elena Llorente, based on the original by Marius Petipa and the later version by Alexander Gorsky (artistic and choreographic direction by Alicia Alonso); music by Ludwig Minkus, with set design and costumes by Salvador Fern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lead roles will be performed by Viengsay Vald\u00e9s (Kitri), \u00c1nyelo Monero (Basilio), Gabriela Druyet (Mercedes), Luis Fern\u00e1ndez (the bullfighter Espada), Estefan\u00eda Hern\u00e1ndez (Queen of the Dryads), Alianed Moreno (Amor), Ernesto D\u00edaz (Lorenzo, Kitri&#8217;s father), and Carlos Lino (Camacho). The roles of Dulcinea, the \u00abKnight of the Sorrowful Figure,\u00bb and his faithful squire will be played by Sadaise Arencibia, Dani Hern\u00e1ndez, and Roberto Gonz\u00e1lez, respectively, all accompanied by soloists and the corps de ballet and the Oviedo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Idalgel Marquetti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Saturday, April 6, as a clear example of its wide stylistic and performing range, the Cuban company will offer a concert program consisting of the ballets \u00abDidenoi,\u00bb by Maruxa Salas; \u00abDouble Bounce,\u00bb by Peter Quanz; \u00abR\u00edtmicas,\u00bb by Iv\u00e1n Tenorio; \u00abLa muerte de un cisne,\u00bb by Michel Descombey; \u00abMaj\u00edsimo,\u00bb by Jorge Garc\u00eda, and \u00abS\u00e9ptima sinfon\u00eda,\u00bb by Uwe Scholz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Oviedo Dance Festival began on March 13 and includes several Spanish and foreign companies, representing a diversity of schools, choreographic perspectives, and approaches to dance, including the K\u00e4fig Company from France; Pilobolus Dancer Theater from the United States, and the Antonio Najarro Company from Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With these two performances in Asturias, the National Ballet of Cuba begins an extensive tour through European cities in Spain and Portugal, culminating in Zaragoza on Sunday, June 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: Press Department of the National Ballet of Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Translated by Luis E.
