The exhibition will showcase over 30 pieces made from various materials, including photographs, objects, and suitcases that Hernández Cadi has collected over the years from public spaces, which is how he earned his nickname.

Also referred to as «the Man with the Suitcases,» Hernández Cadi’s works incorporate themes related to sexuality, religion, death, and satire, resulting in diverse collages created from drawings, various materials, and fragments of texts that often inspire reflection. These elements are distinctive features of his creations.

Hernández Cadi initially trained as a veterinarian but left the profession due to challenging psychological conditions and a complicated family environment. He first exhibited his original works in Cuba at the Alliance Française in October 2019, followed by a showing at the Christian Berst Gallery during that same month until November of that year.

Subsequent exhibitions have taken place at the Paris venue, as well as in cities across Portugal, the United States, Poland, and Spain. His work has been featured in the 9th Contemporary Art Biennial of the Fundación Once and most recently at the Picasso Museum. Additionally, creations by Jorge Alberto Hernández Cadi have become part of private collections, including that of the Pompidou Center.

Source: National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba

Translated by Luis E.
