The National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba will present its upcoming concert under the baton of the renowned composer and conductor, Maestro Jorge L\u00f3pez Mar\u00edn, on Sunday, January 19, at 11:00 a.m., in the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater of Cuba.<\/p>\n

This event is part of a series featuring guest conductors who, throughout the orchestra\u2019s history, have honored the ensemble with their expertise and works, elevating the stature of Cuba\u2019s premier symphonic group.<\/p>\n

The carefully selected program for this Sunday includes Night on Bald Mountain<\/strong> by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, arranged by another giant of classical music, the Russian maestro Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.<\/p>\n

The concert continues with West Side Story Selections<\/strong> by American composer Leonard Bernstein, arranged by J. Mason, and concludes with Second Concerto for Orchestra<\/strong>, a composition by Jorge L\u00f3pez Mar\u00edn himself.<\/p>\n

Maestro L\u00f3pez Mar\u00edn, a distinguished composer and conductor, pursued advanced studies at the Conservatories of Kyiv and Moscow, training with prominent mentors, including the celebrated Aram Khachaturian.<\/p>\n

He holds a PhD in Art Sciences and is a Full Professor at Cuba\u2019s University of the Arts. Over his career, he has conducted all of Cuba\u2019s symphony orchestras, the National Concert Band, and international ensembles in Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, the former USSR, Costa Rica, Argentina, and Ecuador.<\/p>\n

With an extensive repertoire, Maestro L\u00f3pez Mar\u00edn combines universal classics and his own compositions in his performances. Notably, he has premiered major works in Cuba, such as Leonard Bernstein\u2019s The Age of Anxiety Symphony<\/strong>. Since the 1970s, he has been a regular collaborator with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, frequently performing during its concert seasons.<\/p>\n
