The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), in collaboration with the Cuban Institute of Music, will host a special week of activities from May 12 to 16 leading up to Cubadisco 2025<\/em>, the island\u2019s premier international music industry fair. The pre-festival events offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the enduring impact of Cuban music on both artists and audiences.<\/p>\n

Over five days, UNEAC\u2019s national headquarters will become a hub for showcasing Cuba\u2019s vibrant musical heritage, with a lineup that includes album and documentary launches, expert panels, in-depth discussions, and concerts featuring acclaimed musicians and ensembles.<\/p>\n

Highlights of the program include Detr\u00e1s de la Portada<\/em> (Behind the Cover), focused on album and documentary presentations, and Contracanto<\/em>, a reflective and inclusive space for dialogue about the context surrounding Cuban music and its creators. Genre-focused concerts such as Mi\u00e9rcoles de la Rumba<\/em>, Trova sin Traba<\/em>, and Tarde del Bolero<\/em> will pay tribute to quintessentially Cuban styles.<\/p>\n

According to Mabel Castillo, President of UNEAC\u2019s Music Association, the program will kick off on the afternoon of Monday, May 12, with the screening of two documentaries: Oriki para Bola de Nieve<\/em>, directed by Lourdes de los Santos, and Flautas con aroma de mujer<\/em>, by Alberto Padr\u00f3n. The day’s live performance will feature Camerata Cort\u00e9s, under the baton of Orlando \u201cMaraca\u201d Valle.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, May 13, the album Live in Havana<\/em> and the documentary Estrellas del Buena Vista y m\u00e1s<\/em> will be presented. A panel on Son cubano<\/em>, moderated by Nery Gonz\u00e1lez Bello, head of UNEAC\u2019s musicology section, will include special guest Pancho Amat. He and his group El Cabildo<\/em> will close the day with a performance.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s program will spotlight the release of La bendici\u00f3n de las dos aguas<\/em> (Abdala Productions), a recording by Madreagua<\/em>, a group dedicated to Rumba and Afro-Cuban culture, led by Roberto Silva. Madreagua<\/em> will also perform as part of Mi\u00e9rcoles de la Rumba<\/em> in UNEAC\u2019s Patio Hur\u00f3n Azul<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Unicornio label will present the Orisha Ay\u00e9 Collection<\/em> and the multimedia project Ogg\u00fan<\/em> by L\u00e1zaro Ros, followed by a vibrant trova<\/em> jam session (Trova sin Traba<\/em>) featuring singer-songwriters Santa Massiel Rueda, Ana Irma P\u00e9rez Perell\u00f3, Gladys del Monte, and Pedrito Berit\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

The pre-festival week will conclude on Friday, May 16, with another edition of Detr\u00e1s de la Portada<\/em>, this time highlighting Rumba con Swing. Re-creaciones de Chano Pozo<\/em>, a Colibr\u00ed Productions album featuring Emilio Morales, Alejandro Falc\u00f3n, and the Abreu Brothers. That evening, Tarde del Bolero<\/em> will bring together Mundito Gonz\u00e1lez, Vania Borges, and Daniel P\u00e9rez Febles, accompanied by the Cuerdas Profundas<\/em> Orchestra, conducted by L\u00e1zaro Dagoberto Gonz\u00e1lez.<\/p>\n

Cubadisco 2025<\/em> is the largest event in Cuba\u2019s recording industry calendar and serves as a vital platform for the promotion and recognition of national music. The pre-festival week, organized by UNEAC and the Cuban Institute of Music, promises to be a celebration of local talent and a showcase for the productions competing in Cuba\u2019s grand musical showcase.<\/p>\n
