The\u00a0National Museum of Fine Arts in Cuba\u00a0will celebrate the life and legacy of\u00a0Professor Oscar Morri\u00f1a\u00a0on the 100th anniversary of his birth, recognizing his significant contributions as an art historian and educator.<\/p>\n
A special panel discussion will take place on\u00a0Wednesday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m.\u00a0in the\u00a0Audiovisual Hall\u00a0of the\u00a0Cuban Art Building. The panelists will include\u00a0Mar\u00eda del Carmen Rumbault, a respected figure in Cuban visual arts education;\u00a0B\u00e1rbara Beatriz Laffita, a professor at the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of Havana;\u00a0Roberto Cobas, curator of the Museum\u2019s \u00abEmergence and Consolidation of Modern Art in Cuba\u00bb collections; and\u00a0Oramis L\u00f3pez Cede\u00f1o, head of the Museum\u2019s Education Department.<\/p>\n
Oscar Morri\u00f1a is remembered for his extensive contributions to art education and museum outreach. He played a key role in designing educational programs and materials aimed at fostering aesthetic awareness among the Museum\u2019s general audience. Additionally, he founded and promoted the\u00a0Didactic Gallery\u00a0within the institution.<\/p>\n
Morri\u00f1a taught for many years in the\u00a0Art History Department at the University of Havana\u00a0and authored over a dozen didactic books on\u00a0museology,\u00a0art history, and\u00a0visual arts appreciation,\u00a0many of which remain essential reading at various educational levels.<\/p>\n
