Renowned artist from the Cuban city of Trinidad, Yudit Vidal Faife, returns to Havana this week to unveil her latest collection, Tejidos paralelos<\/strong>, featuring 18 jute-based tapestries.<\/p>\n

Merging tradition with modernity, the exhibition honours Hispanic heritage in its purest form, opening Friday, 17 October, at the Museo Casa de la Obra P\u00eda in Havana\u2019s Historic Centre.<\/p>\n

The collection highlights the delicate intricacies of ancient thread and needle patterns, realised through techniques developed in collaboration with artisans from Proyecto Entre hilos, alas y pinceles and students from the Fernando Aguado y Rico Workshop School.<\/p>\n

At the opening, the inclusive tapestry Abrazo textil de Trinidad<\/strong> will be donated to Havana. The piece was created by the artist alongside students from the Workshop School of the Office of the Conservator of Trinidad (Cuba), the participating artisans, and a group of children with special educational needs.<\/p>\n

The tapestry formed part of the Detr\u00e1s del Muro<\/strong> project, through which the prolific painter took part in the XV Havana Biennial. Originally made from recycled materials, it has evolved into a playful and ingenuous work, Yudit Vidal told Radio Sancti Sp\u00edritus. Measuring four square metres, it recreates two of the most significant symbols of both cities: in Trinidad, the tower of the Convent of San Francisco de As\u00eds; and in Havana, the iconic Morro lighthouse tower.<\/p>\n
