These two significant dates converge in a tribute now underway in Cuba.<\/p>\n<p>The Nicol\u00e1s Guill\u00e9n Foundation has organised a roundtable dedicated to Machado&#8217;s life and impact, commemorating the 150th anniversary of his birth. Hosted at the Villena Hall of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the event is supported by the Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy (AECID\u2013Cuba).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4471 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/hdez-guillen-conf-prensa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/hdez-guillen-conf-prensa.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/hdez-guillen-conf-prensa-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/hdez-guillen-conf-prensa-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/hdez-guillen-conf-prensa-720x540.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMachado was a poet whom Nicol\u00e1s Guill\u00e9n held in the highest esteem,\u201d stated Nicol\u00e1s Hern\u00e1ndez, president of the Nicol\u00e1s Guill\u00e9n Foundation, at a press conference presenting Cuba\u2019s cultural calendar for <strong>Spain\u2019s National Day<\/strong>. \u201cIn 1966, on 22 February\u2014the anniversary of Machado\u2019s passing in 1939\u2014Guill\u00e9n penned a remarkable piece, praising Machado as \u2018the loftiest and purest poet of modern Spanish literature,\u2019 a testament to his profound admiration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on Machado\u2019s literary journey, Hern\u00e1ndez added: \u201cWithin Machado echoed a paradigm\u2014a poetic path that began under the sway of authority, much like all Spanish-language poetry, but he swiftly discovered his own voice: pure, luminous, powerful. This distinction shaped him, and it is our duty to honour the legacy of Don Antonio Machado.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4472 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/norberto-codina.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/norberto-codina.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/norberto-codina-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For this occasion, Hern\u00e1ndez announced, the foundation will host two distinguished speakers: Norberto Codina, the celebrated poet and editor of <strong><em>La Gaceta de Cuba<\/em><\/strong> for over thirty years, and Jorge Domingo Cuadriello, a renowned Cuban scholar recognised for his rigorous studies on the influence of Spanish literature and exile in Cuba.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4473 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/invest-cub-uneac.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/invest-cub-uneac.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.radioenciclopedia.cu\/cultural-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/invest-cub-uneac-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The event will also feature poetry readings by Waldo Leyva, Alex Pausides, Charo Guerra, Rolando \u00c1valos D\u00edaz, and Gisselle Luc\u00eda Navarro.<\/p>\n<p>As highlighted by <em>Granma<\/em>, Antonio Machado is recognised as one of the foremost figures in Spanish-language poetry: \u201cWith lyrical grace and keen awareness of his poetic power, he portrayed his homeland. His patriotism, deepened with the proclamation of the Republic, compelled him to stand with justice during the war that ultimately claimed his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere exists a Machado who, though never a political militant, championed the cause of justice and goodness, offering the beauty of his soul to those around him and to his people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Translated by Luis E.
