Cuba<\/strong>, its fresh take on the internationally renowned classic.<\/p>\n<p>The performances, which began Friday, January 9, follow the company\u2019s third tour of China, held from October to December 2025, which drew <strong>critical acclaim and enthusiastic audiences<\/strong> across 20 cities in 12 provinces, including the Guangxi Autonomous Region and Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carmen. Cuba<\/strong> is infused with distinctly Cuban flavors. Journalist Toni Pi\u00f1era describes it as \u201can elegant and original piece, infused with rhythm, color, energy, and musicality that radiates pure Cuban spirit, breaking all borders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This Cuban essence is also evident in the soundscape. While the foundation remains the music composed by French composer Georges Bizet, Maestro Veit\u00eda integrates flamenco and Spanish influences, reinterpretations of the original score, and unmistakably Cuban touches. Among them, the standout is a magical moment featuring the iconic bolero <em>Dos Gardenias<\/em> by Isolina Carrillo, sung by the talented cantaora Chelo Pantoja, during the trio of Carmen, Escamillo (the Toreador), and Don Jos\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>The Ballet Espa\u00f1ol de Cuba kicks off 2026\u2014and celebrates its 39th anniversary\u2014with this season, running for two weekends: January 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18.
