P\u00e1ginas Salvadas<\/em> is the title of the exhibition that opened on Wednesday, January 28, at Havana\u2019s Casa Carmen Montilla Gallery. The show is a tribute by Lesbia Vent Dumois \u2014 vice president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) \u2014 to the 27th anniversary of Habana Radio, the voice of Cuba\u2019s heritage, founded by Eusebio Leal.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, which also pays homage to the 173rd anniversary of Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed\u2019s birth, is made up of 19 works from three series: P\u00e1ginas salvadas<\/em> (2025 and 2026), Alianzas<\/em> (2020), and Cartas de amor<\/em> (2009 and 2014). The pieces will be on view to the public through March 10.<\/p>\n

As the 2019 National Visual Arts Prize laureate explains, the exhibition takes its name from its focus on historical episodes that are often unknown or rarely interpreted from an artistic perspective.<\/p>\n

For that reason, many of the works \u2014 which combine techniques such as collage and drawing \u2014 celebrate the Apostle and his closest circle (his parents, his sisters, and his friendship with Mar\u00eda Mantilla). They also feature other key figures, including Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar, Ignacio Agramonte, Tina Modotti, Julio Antonio Mella, and Sor Juana In\u00e9s de la Cruz.<\/p>\n

The opening remarks were delivered by Norma Jim\u00e9nez, director of the gallery. For her part, Magda Resik, director of Habana Radio, highlighted the artist\u2019s immense talent and her decision to draw inspiration from the most intimate environment of Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed.<\/p>\n

To conclude the day\u2019s events marking the station\u2019s 27th anniversary, the concert hall of the Bas\u00edlica Menor de San Francisco de As\u00eds hosted Los Hermanos Abreu, who presented their album Rastros del Alba<\/em>.<\/p>\n
