Scientific conference in Cuba to mark International Translation Day

On September 29th, the Faculty of Health Technology of Havana (FATESA) will be hosting the Scientific Conference titled Translation and its Contribution to the Cultural and Scientific Development of the Professional Field. With this initiative, Cuba joins the celebrations of International Translation Day.

The Department of Languages at FATESA, along with its Chair of Interculturality and the Cuban Association of Translators and Interpreters (ACTI), cordially invite you to participate in an event where you can share your experiences and knowledge on topics relevant to the translation and interpreting profession. Translation, Cultural, and Scientific Development is the main theme that will foster discussions on various topics, such as Translation and Culture, Translating Medical Texts, Medical Terminology, and Translation in English Language Teaching.

The organisers say in the announcement that «the preliminary programme includes the presentation of conferences and papers, as well as the screening of the documentary Mi Vida es Traducir, from the Proyecto Historia de la Traducción y la Interpretación en Cuba, which shows the life experience of a translator of medical texts.»

International Translation Day is observed annually on 30 September. In 2023, the theme chosen by the International Federation of Translators (FIT) is Translation reveals the many aspects of humanity. Thus, the Council of the Federation acknowledges the relevance of translation in different realms of human life and the potential to be exposed to cultures different from what we know.

Representing medical sciences at a grassroots level, Cuba is one of the most prominent nations within FIT through ACTI.
