Premiere of Balneario at the Martí Theatre

The Rosario Cárdenas Company is set to unveil its latest production, Balneario, at the renowned Martí Theatre in the capital this weekend. The show, featuring choreography by newcomer Iran Dilo and music by another talented young composer and performer, Ernesto Oliva, in collaboration with La Aldea.

Under the artistic and general guidance of Maestra Rosario Cárdenas, and with script and production overseen by Liliet Orozco, the performance will showcase dancers from the company, including recipients of the 2013 National Dance Prize, members from MiCompañía, Danza Teatro Retazos, and students from the University of the Arts of Cuba.

Iran Dilo expresses deep gratitude to the esteemed Cuban dancer and choreographer for her unwavering support in the creation of this challenging 50-minute work. «It was an arduous journey for me; we engaged in numerous discussions on how to approach the work,» he shared in an interview for the television program Hola Habana.

Describing the visual narrative on the stage of the Coliseum of the Hundred Doors, he explained, «Balneario alludes to a bathing area where individuals from diverse backgrounds converge. I have embraced the theme of prejudice as a guiding principle, delving into its conflicts and reflecting on how it shapes our lives, particularly during our formative years in childhood. I believe I have shown courage in exposing this, and I hope that through this choreography, the audience will sense the profound impact of prejudice.»

In this manner, Balneario seeks to inspire introspection alongside delivering an exceptional artistic experience.

For the emerging choreographer, this marks his inaugural major work, and he extends an invitation to all: «I would appreciate the presence of anyone who can attend; it would bring me great joy. Furthermore, I encourage attendees to share their opinions—what they think of the piece, their perspectives, and what the experience meant to them. Once you present your idea, there is already a receiving party, the audience, and I would like people to engage in dialogue as well.»

Performances will take place on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 March at 7pm and Sunday 17 March at 5pm in Calle Dragones, entre Prado y Zulueta. Tickets are already on sale at the box office.
