UNEAC Announces 2025 Villanueva Critics Awards

Members of the Criticism and Research Section of the Performing Artists Association of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) have completed their assessment of theater and dance productions staged in Cuba throughout 2025 and announced the winners of the Villanueva Critics’ Awards.

In the national category, the awards went to the following productions: Faro, by Teatro Andante; Un rastro en las estrellas, by Teatro de las Estaciones; Actea, by the Lyceum Mozartiano of Havana; Eclipse, by Danza Espiral; and El nombre de Juana, by La Nave Creative Community in collaboration with the project Mujeres, fuente de inspiración.

In the international category, the jury selected Core Meu, by the Ballet de Montecarlo, and Gaia 2.0, by the French company Bakhus.

A Special Recognition was awarded to Un domingo llamado deseo, a production by the Trotamundo Project and Teatro El Público, starring National Theater Award laureates Verónica Lynn and Carlos Pérez Peña.

As is tradition, the official awards ceremony will be held on January 21 at UNEAC, as part of the Villanueva Theater Festival.
