Maestro Cecilio Tieles Ferrer to Take Part in Musical Heritage Congress

The Museo Nacional de la Música has announced that from March 5 to 8 the Primer Congreso Internacional México–Cuba de Patrimonio Musical will be held in Colima, Mexico, under the slogan Una mirada al siglo XIX. Several Cuban musicians and researchers are slated to participate.

The institution expressed its delight that pianist, professor, and musicologist Maestro Cecilio Tieles Ferrer will take part with a presentation titled Habanera(s), género universal hispano‑cubano… ¿o ritmo universal? He will also present the CD triptych Lamento del poeta. Recuerdos de la isla de Cuba – Las delicias, according to a post on the Museum’s Facebook page.

Maestro Cecilio Tieles Ferrer is the creator and general director of Encuentro Conocer La Habanera, held in the Cuban capital since 2022. The Museo Nacional de la Música has consistently served as the venue for this event, dedicated to one of Cuba’s most emblematic and universal genres, bringing together artists and researchers for each edition.

A distinguished instrumentalist who is also deeply committed to musical research, Tieles earned his doctorate at the Universidad de las Artes de Cuba with a dissertation on the Cuban composer, pianist, and pedagogue Nicolás Ruiz Espadero. He later complemented this scholarly work in 2004 by recording, for the first time, a CD devoted to works by this 19th‑century virtuoso.
