Call for Entries: Fifth Por Siempre Vilma Cuban Song Performance Contest
The fifth edition of the ‘Por Siempre Vilma’ Cuban Song Performance Contest will take place in Havana on April 7, coinciding with the 96th anniversary of the birth of the heroine of the Sierra and the Llano and founder of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).
Maestro and lyric singer Hugo Oslé, director of the Mariana de Gonitch Vocal Academy and promoter of the traditional contest, announced that young people aged 17 to 35, whether professional or amateur, may participate, with musical accompaniment.
The contest will be held at the Centro Balear, located at calle G esquina a 23 in Vedado, starting at 11:00 a.m. Interested participants must register on-site two hours before the event.
A prestigious jury of cultural figures will award prizes to the winners of the event, dedicated to Vilma Espín, who was born on April 7, 1930, in Santiago de Cuba and passed away on June 18, 2007, in Havana at the age of 77.
Oslé noted that, in tribute to one of the leading figures of the Revolution, the ‘Por Siempre Vilma’ Cantata will be held on April 2 at the Institute of Music, and on April 6, a tribute will be held at the headquarters of the Municipal Party Committee in Plaza de la Revolución.
Additionally, the Federation of Cuban Women plans to hold a tribute from a local community or neighborhood in the capital.
According to the renowned lyric artist, the eternal leader, mother, combatant, and revolutionary embodies intelligence, courage, and supreme beauty, a patrimonial legacy of Cuba.
