Palomas Project Turns Its Focus to Women and Water

The exhibition Mujeres… del agua a la vida, conceived by the Palomas Project in collaboration with other institutions, will open on September 8 at the House of Africa in Havana’s Historic Center.

The exhibition features 10 works that explore the relationship between women and water. From different perspectives, each piece sheds light on their realities, challenges, uses of water, and the ways in which this bond is forged.

According to filmmaker Lizette Vila, director of the Palomas Project, the works are by renowned Cuban photographers who have contributed pieces reflecting different artistic perspectives and complementing one another through their distinctive visual languages.

Vila explained that women have a deep and complex relationship with water-related issues and possible solutions, while also bearing responsibility for managing water at the household level, including its collection, storage, and use.

Artworks by Alina Morante, María E. Bode, Gabriela Pez, Humberto Mayol, Lissette Solorzano, Maité Fernández, Vladimir Zúñiga, Monik Moliner, Sonia Almaguer, and Maykel Espinosa make up the exhibition.

Organized by the Palomas Project, the exhibition is the result of an alliance with the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industries, and the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana. It is also supported by several Basque cooperation agencies, the La Moneda Cubana local development project, and the host institution, located at Calle Obrapía 157 , entre las calles Mercaderes y San Ignacio, in Old Havana.
