Fiesta de la Cubanía: Culture and the Homeland

The 32nd edition of Fiesta de la Cubanía will be held in Bayamo from October 17 to 20. The event will celebrate national culture and the Homeland as key expressions of the country’s traditions and collective memory.

This year’s Fiesta de la Cubanía will be dedicated to the 205th anniversary of the birth of Francisco Vicente Aguilera and the 65th anniversary of the speech known as “Words to the Intellectuals,” delivered by Fidel Castro. Fidel Castro will also be honored through various theoretical sessions and other activities included in the program.

The upcoming edition will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Ministry of Culture, the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba. The event will highlight the city of Bayamo, Cuban identity, and the nation’s cultural heritage.

According to Ridiel Roblejo, president of the Organizing Committee, the Fiesta will feature 13 main areas encompassing theoretical sessions, dance events, activities for children and young people, and other forms of programming.

The program will include theatrical premieres, presentations of new publications, and musical performances. It will also feature recently completed audiovisual works presented as special screenings, as well as other works designed to foster close dialogue between creators and audiences.

Concerts by groups representing a variety of musical styles and visual-art exhibitions will complement the program of this multidisciplinary event. History, culture, and thought will come together to promote the work of Cuban creators while fostering dialogue with international art and the artistic offerings presented in Bayamo during the event.

Through its rich artistic and literary program, the 32nd edition of Fiesta de la Cubanía will emphasize the importance of exchange among creators, promote opportunities for artistic collaboration, and encourage the development of new projects in support of Cuba’s national culture.
