Alicia Alonso Grand Theater of Havana: a display of beauty (+Photos)

Havana treasures beautiful places and monuments, no wonder the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) declared it a Wonder City in December 2014.
Among the beautiful things that can be observed in the Cuban capital are many of its buildings, representative of different architectural styles that denote the eclecticism of the capital.
And how can we talk about architectural beauty without mentioning the building that now houses the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater of Havana.

The work of Belgian architect Paul Beleu, the building is framed in neo-baroque style and was modeled on European baroque constructions, so there are plenty of stone carvings and sculptures.
Inaugurated in 1915, it housed the Teatro Tacón, for many years the largest and most luxurious theater not only in Cuba but also in the Americas, where the greatest stars of opera, ballet, musical revue, opera and zarzuela performed.

The space, along with the surrounding land, was purchased in 1906 by the Galician Center of Havana to build its social palace.
Since 1965, it has been the headquarters of the National Ballet of Cuba, and in 1985, on the initiative of Alicia Alonso, it was renamed the Grand Theater of Havana, a name to which, since 2015, has been added that of the Prima Ballerina Assoluta, by agreement of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.
