An Invitation to Learn More About the Life and Legacy of Fidel Castro

The Traveling Exhibition Room at the José Martí National Library of Cuba will host a tribute to Fidel Castro on August 13, coinciding with the 99th anniversary of his birth.
According to Professor Juan Hernández Machado, National Philately Award winner in 2012, the event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is open to anyone interested in exploring key aspects of the life and work of the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution.
Under the title “Journeys of the Commander-in-Chief as Seen Through Philately,” this presentation will kick off a series of activities designed to honor the memory of the historic leader. The program will continue through August 2026, marking the centenary of his birth.
Philately will serve as a unique tool to explore, through postal elements, Castro’s travels to Venezuela, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and the United Nations headquarters. Each journey will be detailed, highlighting the objectives and experiences of these visits.
Professor Hernández Machado added that the event will bring together philatelists, historians, literacy advocates, and veterans of the Revolution, and extends a warm invitation to students of all ages as well as anyone interested.
The program includes monthly presentations with the following themes: Fidel in Cuban Agricultural Development (September), Advances in Cuban Science (October), Essential: Defending National Culture (November), and The Importance of Education (December).
For 2026, scheduled talks include: January – The Importance of Studying History; February – The Most Important: Childhood and Youth; March – The Crucial Role of Women; April – Victory Belongs to Those Who Know How to Defend Themselves; May – Industrialization in Cuba; June – The Power of the People — That Is True Power! July – Fulfilling Our Debt to Humanity; and August – The Party and Unity: Pillars of Victory.
Dates for each session will be set the month prior, based on the activities of the Traveling Exhibition Room, and will be announced in due course. These events offer excellent opportunities for new generations to gain a deeper understanding of Fidel Castro’s remarkable legacy.
