Cinemateca de Cuba and its program of the month

This August, the Cinemateca de Cuba’s summer program is dedicated to catastrophes on the screen, a segment that includes some 40 films about natural or man-made disasters.
The exhibition includes the most representative films of this genre and presents several premieres at the 23 y 12 Cinema. On Wednesday, we will be screening two films: En el viejo Chicago, directed by Henry King, and Llegaron las lluvias, directed by Clarence Brown.
The former received five Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture of the Year, and Alice Brady won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Llegaron las lluvias, an adaptation of the novel by Louis Bromfield, won the first Oscar in this category for its exceptional special effects. It was also nominated for its sets, sound, editing, and original score.
The international event Orizzonti Italia-Cuba (2) will also be held, which will allow audiences to enjoy both the premiere of contemporary Italian films and access to transcendental films of the country’s cinematography in restored copies screened in high definition (HD).
On the other hand, the Great Sagas will continue, this time dedicated to the character of Spider-Man. The films will be accompanied by restored copies of Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano.
Meanwhile, in the Charlot Hall, people will be commemorating the 100th birthday of British filmmaker Richard Attenborough (1923-2014). This renowned director, who was also a talented actor, achieved enormous success not only in his acting career but also in directing and producing. He proved his versatility by excelling in various roles throughout his career.
In the hall, we will be showing all parts of the Jurassic Park franchise, along with the concluding fragment of The Cinema within the Cinema cycle.
