Ciro Bianchi Ross’s Chronicles Featured at the First May Edition of Sábado del Libro

Cuban journalist and writer Ciro Bianchi Ross returns to the spotlight this Saturday with La Habana de Hemingway y otras historias, a collection of chronicles that delve into the lives of iconic figures for whom Havana has served as birthplace, destination, or home. The book will be presented during the first Sábado del Libro in May, held on Calle de Madera in Old Havana.

This literary afternoon promises to captivate readers who enjoy stories featuring legendary characters from the worlds of film, music, and literature. Published by Casa Editora Abril, the book also recounts masterfully executed heists and scams that have left their mark on Havana’s urban folklore.

Bianchi Ross explores the true story behind the death of Alberto Yarini, a notorious figure in Havana’s history, and sheds light on the romance between Eulalia of Bourbon and the Prince of Asturias. The collection also includes accounts of international cultural icons who spent time in the Cuban capital, as well as portraits of extraordinary Cuban personalities known for their innate talent and charisma.

Among the book’s many intriguing topics is the visit of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, who arrived in Havana on March 7, 1930, invited by renowned Cuban anthropologist Don Fernando Ortiz.

Written in a lively and conversational tone, Bianchi Ross’s chronicles draw readers in with stories that blend popular memory with national history, offering a fresh perspective on the characters and events that continue to shape Cuba’s cultural landscape.
