Classroom-Museums Project in the New School Year

This Wednesday, the Classroom-Museums Project for the 2024-2025 school year was officially opened on Calle de Madera in the Plaza de Armas. This noble initiative, led by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana (OHCH), benefits approximately 600 students each year, demonstrating how this form of heritage education positively influences the development of values, social standards, and discipline among students in participating centers.
According to teachers, students in the Classroom-Museums Project also show improvements in academic performance and learning outcomes compared to other children in Old Havana.
The Classroom-Museums Project involves primary school children spending time at cultural centers and museums managed by the OHCH in Havana’s historic district. It is one of the flagship initiatives aimed at engaging young audiences in the historic center, according to data published by the Office.
These classes strengthen students’ connection to the city’s historical and cultural heritage, fostering an understanding of its preservation and care. Students are encouraged to share the knowledge they gain, as evidenced by their participation as «Children’s Heritage Guides» in the «Rutas y Andares» project and the Children’s Book Festival.
