Colibrí Productions Announces New Release: Carlos Fariñas – Music for Orchestra

The Cuban record label and music publishing house, Producciones Colibrí, proudly presents Carlos Fariñas – Music for Orchestra, a music tribute to the orchestral legacy of one of the most essential voices in 20th-century Cuban music.

This album highlights the expressive power of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, which takes center stage in this recording. The ensemble engages in a profound dialogue with the poetic and structural depth of Fariñas’s work, creating a journey that bridges the contemporary with the timeless. This was recently emphasized in a post by the country’s leading symphonic group on Facebook.

The album features four cornerstone pieces from the orchestra’s repertoire: El bosque ha echado a andar, Nocturno de Enero, and Punto y tonadas, conducted by Maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa; and Preludio para Penthesilea, under the baton of Maestro Iván del Prado.

Nominated for the 2025 Cubadisco Award, Carlos Fariñas – Music for Orchestra* is under the musical direction of Maestro Juan Piñera—composer, repertoire consultant, and educator—who also wrote the album’s liner notes, providing context to this heartfelt homage.

Executive production was led by Mayra Torralba, ensuring the project’s curatorial integrity. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Giraldo García, with graphic design by Rodolfo Delgado “Rodín.”

“This album is a celebration of Cuban musical thought, showcasing its academic richness and artistic sensitivity. It offers an encounter with the essential,” the post concludes.
