Cuban Day of Afro-Descendant Women, Africa in Me Cultural Gala

As part of the International Day of Afro-Latin, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women, this Sunday, July 23, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana will host an event to showcase part of the cultural wealth that Mother Africa has bequeathed to humanity and to express gratitude for its spiritual values.
The cultural gala, at 2:00 p.m., is called Africa in me and highlights the footprint of this great continent in Cuban and universal culture. It will also feature poet and essayist Nancy Morejon and emblematic filmmakers Sara Gómez and Gloria Rolando.
The unique performance will feature renowned artists such as Zunilda Remigio, Arlenis Rodríguez, the Son Galves Duo, La Reina y la Real, DJ Reitt and Shanara, among others, as well as the dance groups Luceros del Oriente and Havana Tropical Dance. Poets Nancy Morejón and Carmen del Monte will join the cast with their verses. All under the artistic direction of Yaniset Nuñez Manzanares and Josseph Reid.
The Articulación Afrofeminista Cubana, a collective of academics, teachers, activists and artists, has proposed to celebrate the International Day of Afro-Latin, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women with a wide range of activities.
Since 1992, the International Day of Afro-Latin, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women, has been celebrated worldwide on July 25, with the aim of recognizing Afro-descendant women and promoting public policies that contribute to improving their quality of life and eradicating racism and discrimination.
