Cuban National Ballet Pays Tribute to Alicia Alonso
In memory of the legendary prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, and to honor the 105th anniversary of her birth, the Cuban National Ballet will present a special season of the classical ballet Don Quixote.
Since 2020, December 21 has been designated the Day of Ibero-American Dance as a gesture of respect for this towering figure of world culture, ensuring her birthday remains immortalized.
Performances of Don Quixote will take place at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theatre of Cuba on December 19, 20, and 21; December 26, 27, and 28; and on December 29 and 30. The season will conclude on Thursday, January 1, 2026, continuing a tradition upheld for more than six decades by the Cuban National Ballet. This performance marks the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution and the start of the new year.
Several artists from the company, recognized as Cultural Heritage of the Nation, will have the opportunity to debut in the principal roles of Don Quixote, performing alongside leading dancers. Additionally, international guest stars from foreign companies are expected to join the production.
