Danza Contemporánea de Cuba presents world premiere in April

Danza Contemporánea de Cuba will close its season in April at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba with the world premiere of Hands On, choreographed by Greek artist Yannis Mantsis.
Under the artistic direction of 2018 National Dance Award winner Maestro Miguel Iglesias, the renowned dance troupe’s performances will take place on April 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.
Mantsis’s work deals with the natural processes of change and resignification that human beings assume based on their will and determination, starting from the idea that the future is built by human beings without divine intervention.
The Greek choreographer creates an interesting plastic framework that distinguishes his work with the Cuban company, according to the company’s press release.
The program will conclude with one of the company’s recent premieres, Polvo, palabras, sombras, nada (Dust, Words, Shadows, Nothing) by George Céspedes. DCC’s resident choreographer proposes a metaphor about communication and other human relationships based on the music of French composer Camille Saint-Saëns.
The April 29 performance celebrates International Dance Day.
Danza Contemporánea de Cuba is the mother company of the Cuban modern dance movement. Its repertoire includes works by renowned Cuban and foreign choreographers that have received international critical acclaim and have been performed in major theaters in the Americas and Europe.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 18, at the theater’s box office.
