Gala Concert Honors the Legacy of the Alonso Family
The Ballet Laura Alonso company will pay tribute to the legacy of the Alonso family with two gala concerts titled Alonso por siempre, which will take place at the Teatro Karl Marx in Havana, Cuba.
These performances will honor the founders and key figures of the Cuban School of Ballet—brothers Fernando and Alberto Alonso, along with Alicia Alonso. Their multi-generational artistic vision has created a tradition that merges technical rigor with innovative creativity, according to the communications team at Prodanza.
The concerts are scheduled for Saturday, December 27, and Sunday, December 28, starting at 5:00 p.m. local time. The galas will showcase selections from landmark works in the repertoire, particularly those most closely associated with the legendary Alicia Alonso.
Under the artistic direction of maître and ballerina Laura Alonso, the program will feature the Black Swan Pas de Deux from Act III of Swan Lake, based on the version by prima ballerina assoluta; excerpts from Giselle and The Dying Swan, all staged with Laura’s unique choreographic signature; as well as the Pas de Deux from Don Quixote and the Balcony Scene from Romeo and Juliet, presented in the version by choreographer Iván Monreal Alonso.
The evening will conclude with the Carmen Suite, choreographed by Alberto Alonso, which is set to the French libretto by Ludovic Halévy and Henri Meilhac, with music by Georges Bizet and Rodion Shchedrin.
