Havana Mambo at the Movies: A Musical Tribute

Havana Mambo at the Movies: A Musical Tribute

As part of the 45th edition of the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) is hosting and sponsoring, for the second time, the side event Havana Mambo at the Movies, a celebration of cinema through music.

Musician, producer, and cultural promoter Arnaldo Rodríguez TALISMÁN takes on the artistic and general direction of this initiative, supported by EGREM’s Musicuba Agency and Mambo S.R.L.

Music, along with the work of composers, instrumentalists, and performers over time, has given Cuban and Latin American cinema a unique and distinctive identity. Guided by this premise, the first edition of the event in December 2023 was a resounding success.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the Film Festival, this project offered passersby and film enthusiasts roaming the bustling streets the chance to enjoy an open-air cinema at 23rd and 12th Streets. This venue allowed audiences to reconnect with iconic films and revisit others through the lens of music.

This year, the initiative returns with projections and concerts organized into thematic nights. Its aim is to highlight the richness of cinema from various countries in the region, underscore the importance of music created by Latin American composers for these films, promote prominent Cuban musicians whose work is closely tied to national cinema, and shine a spotlight on Cuban musical genres that have gained prominence on the big screen.

A particularly special moment will be the performance of the renowned Argentine rock band La Renga, sharing the stage with Cuban artists.

From December 5 to 15, Havana transforms into the cinematic capital of Latin America. Music joins this celebration as a tribute to the deep connection between the seventh art and the melodies that have brought it to life. The invitation is open to all!
