Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba Proposes Special Anniversary Celebration Season

Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC) will kick off celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of its founding with a special season entitled Alas por dentro, an intimate event that will open the doors of the company’s headquarters on Fridays, February 13, 20, and 27, and March 6, at 5:00 p.m.

The initiative aims to share, with a select audience, the very space where creative processes are born and where the journey toward the grand stage begins.

This experience revolves around the acclaimed production Alas, a work of powerful messages that earned the Uneac (Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) Award for Best Choreography upon its premiere two decades ago.

According to the organizers, attendees will be able to tour the LADC headquarters as dancers prepare to perform, enjoy a curated selection from the piece, and engage in close dialogue with members of the creative team and those responsible for staging the production.

This exclusive opportunity seeks to reveal the heart and the path traveled by an artistic collective and a large-scale work before its major flight onto the main stage. Alas will reach a broader audience in mid-March, when it returns to the theater.

Artistic director and choreographer Lizt Alfonso aims to demonstrate that a performance begins long before the curtain rises. In this case, she explained, the work is conceived as a hymn to human spirituality, with scenes whose titles become states of the soul: wings to be, to endure, to exist, to struggle, to feel, to live, to swing, to keep the rhythm, to fly.

The LADC musical ensemble, under the direction of Carmen Souto, will perform compositions by Yuniel Rascón, Denis Peralta, Damián Nueva, Yordanis O’Reilly, Juan Pablo Solas, and Lizt Alfonso herself.

A blend of drama and humor that mirrors national identity, Alas is an intense, joyful, and provocative production. Two decades after its world premiere—or its first flight, as the company defines it—it now returns with a renewed cast and live music, reaffirming the power of dance and dreams.

Those interested in securing one of the 100 available seats per performance may reserve a place on business days and during business hours by contacting 52927037 (via WhatsApp) or 78660749 (landline). Each participant is asked to make a generous donation, which will help the prestigious institution continue developing its artistic, educational, and inclusive projects.

Finally, the source notes that once a reservation is made, users have 48 hours to complete their donation. After that period, the reservation will be canceled, and the seat may be reassigned to another interested party.
