Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba Turns Bailar no tiene edad into a Weekly Invitation

Health, respect, dance and entertainment converge in Bailar no tiene edad, a Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba project focused on the well‑being of older adults. Its success and high demand have prompted the company’s leadership to turn what was once a free monthly offering into a weekly invitation.

The renowned company announced that, beginning in March, the initiative will take place every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Malecón Art 255, where grandmothers and grandfathers can embark on a journey through memories, accompanied by songs that defined eras and marked cherished personal experiences, according to a press release.

On March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, participants of all generations will be welcome. Although older adults remain the priority, the open gathering Bailar no tiene edad promotes mutual understanding, shared enjoyment, solidarity and intergenerational exchange.

For one hour, director, instructor and choreographer Lizt Alfonso—together with dancers and teachers from Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba—will lead sessions that combine dance, singing and breathing exercises designed to relax, oxygenate and strengthen both body and spirit.

Bailar no tiene edad has enabled the company to meet remarkable individuals, some of them willing to travel from other provinces to Havana just to experience this class, overcoming the ailments that often accompany age, as well as the country’s complex transportation situation.

Since the project’s launch in February 2025, hundreds of older adults have gathered in the main hall of Malecón Art 255 to receive energy and affection. Some are nonagenarians; others live with physical disabilities or various medical conditions. All of them now inspire Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba to work harder and better in promoting well‑being, inclusion, respect and care through dance—an art capable of uniting and healing, the statement concludes.
