Mexican University to Confer an Honorary Doctorate on Lizt Alfonso

The Anglo-Hispano-Mexican University has announced that it will bestow the title of Doctor Honoris Causa upon five prominent figures from Cuban culture, with Lizt Alfonso, our founder and director, being the only woman selected for this prestigious honor this year.
The esteemed choreographer and teacher will receive this honorary distinction alongside actor Jorge Perugorría, educator and general director of La Colmenita Children’s Theater Company Carlos Alberto Cremata, as well as visual artists Roberto Fabelo and Manuel Mendive.
The Doctor Honoris Causa is the highest distinction conferred by a university to national or international figures in recognition of their outstanding merits and excellence.
According to Daniel Martín Subiaut, honorary director of the Anglo-Hispano-Mexican University (known in academic circles as UAHM), this investiture celebrates decades of dedication and elevates the name of Cuba to new heights.
The ceremony will take place in Havana, at the Universal Art Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts, on October 4th. The artistic portion of the gala will be led by Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC). However, due to the limited seating capacity of the hall, the event will not be open to the public.
The Anglo-Hispano-Mexican University is based in the city of Puebla de Zaragoza, commonly referred to as Puebla. The work of Lizt Alfonso has been showcased in Mexico on various stages, including the nation’s premier performance venue and one of the most renowned in the world, the National Auditorium.
